Hotel housekeeping checklist for room inspection

A printable room inspection checklist for hotel housekeeping, organised by area, with departure and stayover items marked and a sign-off line for the inspector. Print it, or save it as a PDF from your browser.

To keep a digital copy, choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in the print dialog.

How to use the sheet

  1. Print one sheet per room, or one per inspection round.
  2. Tick OK when an item meets the standard and Redo when it goes back to the room attendant. Leave both empty where an item does not apply.
  3. Items marked D apply to departure rooms only, items marked S to stayover rooms only. Everything else applies to both.
  4. Adapt the list to your own room standard: cross out lines you do not use and add your own under the notes.

Departure vs stayover: what changes

The same room gets two different jobs depending on whether the guest has left or is staying on. Most hotels define both in their own room standard. This is the usual split.

Departure (check-out) room

  • Full clean of every area, including under the bed and inside drawers and wardrobe.
  • Complete change of bed linen and towels.
  • All amenities and supplies replaced to the full standard, opened items removed.
  • Safe left open and empty, drawers and wardrobe checked for guest property.
  • Anything the guest left behind handed in to lost and found and logged.
  • Minibar counted and restocked, consumption passed on to the front office.

Stayover room

  • Refresh clean: bathroom, bins, surfaces in reach, floor, bed made.
  • Linen and towels changed according to hotel policy or guest request.
  • Guest belongings stay where they are. Luggage, papers and devices are not opened or moved.
  • Only what is in the bin gets thrown away.
  • Amenities topped up, not replaced wholesale.
  • Do Not Disturb respected, and a missed service noted for the front office.

Where a paper checklist stops

A printed sheet is a good standard for training and for the inspection round itself. Its limits show the moment a question comes up later.

  • It holds a tick, not a photo. When a guest complains about a stain the next day, the sheet cannot show what the room looked like at the check.
  • It keeps no searchable record of who checked which room, and when. That stays on a clipboard until the sheet is filed or lost.
  • A room sent back for re-cleaning and its second check end up on two separate pieces of paper, if the second one gets written at all.
  • At month end, anyone who needs to know how many checks were done, and by whom, has to count sheets.

How ARPCLEAN handles the same check

In ARPCLEAN a hotel can switch on Post-check. A room the attendant marks finished then stays open until an inspector, from the hotel or from the cleaning company, signs it off or sends it back for another pass. The team leader hands out the checks on the phone, and the housekeeping manager sees the whole day live. The check sits in the same record that billing and payroll are built from, so nobody has to rebuild the month from paper.
